Dave Curry

Co-founder, President & CEO

Dave is a successful entrepreneur having founded, taken public, and exited two companies for nearly $1B and has over 30 years of combined telecommunications and software industry experience. Prior to starting Demand Energy in 2008, he was President & CEO of World Wide Packets, a layer-2, point-to-point Ethernet switch vendor to Comcast, Clearwire, & AT&T that was acquired by Ciena in 2008. Before WWP, he co-founded Architel, a provisioning software telecom OSS vendor to Verizon, Cable & Wireless, BT, NYNEX, and GTE that was taken public in 1998 and subsequently acquired by Nortel in 2000. In 1996, Dave was selected Canadian Entrepreneur of the Year for his leadership at Architel.


Brett Turner

Co-founder & Chief Financial Officer

Brett is an experienced finance executive with over 17 years of experience in senior roles in both public and private high-growth technology companies. Prior to starting Demand Energy in 2008, Brett was Vice President of Finance at World Wide Packets where he was responsible for raising $70M in equity and debt financing, contributed key support to the sales team in the company’s $500M AT&T account win, and played an integral role in the M&A effort with Goldman Sachs in the sale of the company to Ciena. Prior to WWP, he served at Amazon.com, Teledesic, and theglobe.com. Brett became a CPA early in his career while at Deloitte & Touche.


Bill Nordstrom

Senior Vice President, Energy Storage Division, Marketing

Bill is a versatile executive with extensive leadership, marketing and start up experience. He joined Demand Energy in January of 2012 to oversee the development of the Advanced Lead Acid battery business. He had an 18 year career at Nordstrom Inc, serving in multiple leadership roles including Co-President. In 2005, he created and launched Weldon Barber, which is now a leader in high end men's salon industry. Bill is co-owner and director of Pacific Power Products, a distributor of diesel engines, transmissions and generators In the Pacific Northwest, Alaska and Hawaii.


Doug Staker

Vice President of Business Development & INTERNATIONAL SALES

Prior to joining Demand Energy in early 2009, Doug was Vice President and General Manager of International Sales and Marketing for Itron Inc, a leading provider of technology to automate the electric, gas and water utility industry. At Itron, he was specifically responsible for developing emerging International markets and the management of their overseas subsidiaries. Prior to this role, he was responsible for product line management and product development of fixed network and residential Automatic Meter Reading systems, which generated over $1B of revenue for the company. His previous experience includes business development, product line management and product development. Doug has over 25 years of utility industry experience.


Shane Johnson

Vice President of NORTH AMERICA SALES & Product Management

Shane was Vice President of Professional Services at Ciena prior to joining Demand Energy. Prior to its acquisition, he was Vice President of Customer Service & Support at World Wide Packets. While there, Shane developed and implemented a successful global support, training, and professional services division. Prior to that, he led global Systems Engineering and APAC business development at WWP, and spent the first 10 years of his career in the electric utility business at Douglas County PUD. Shane has over 20 years of combined electric utility and telecom experience leading the implementation of large scale IP-based optical networks, utility automation and SCADA projects.


Ted Volberding

Vice President of Hardware Engineering & Operations

Ted has over 30 years of experience in supply chain, logistics, production, & sustaining engineering, and most recently was Vice President of Operations at RadioFrame Networks, where he directed LEAN manufacturing activities to increase shipments from < $3M to $20M+ per Qtr in 90 days and established QMS and achieved ISO 9001:2000 registration in 6 months without any non-conformances. Prior to RadioFrame, Ted was VP of Operations at WWP. There he outsourced the company’s product line to a Tier 1 EMS provider in Malaysia that reduced COGS by 50% in the first year achieving over $2.5M in savings in 9 months.


Scott Wilsey

Vice President of Software Engineering

Scott has over 16 years of telecom and electric utility industry experience, including senior roles in product development and product line management. Prior to joining Demand Energy, he was Senior Director of Software at Ciena and at WWP prior to the acquisition. While there, Scott led the embedded and network management system development teams for carrier-grade, large scale solutions for AT&T, Clearwire, Comcast, Virgin, KPN, and others. He has significant experience in developing and designing network management systems and their integration with back office billing, CRM, and SCADA systems. Scott is the inventor on 7 patents, 4 awarded and 3 pending.
